United Welsh launches Virtual Tour of Sheltered Housing Developments
Anyone facing the difficult decision of whether or not to move into sheltered accommodation is now able to take a tour of their potential new home without having to leave their own front room.
Caerphilly and Cardiff-based United Welsh Housing Association (UWHA) has become the first housing association in Wales to launch online virtual tours of its properties. The new facility is accessible via United Welsh’s website and allows prospective applicants to view the Association’s thirteen sheltered housing developments without having to visit them.

Made possible by over
£29,000 of funding from a Welsh Assembly Government grant match-funded
by United Welsh, the virtual tours facility features photographs and views of
the sheltered housing schemes owned by United Welsh and shows information on the
property, location and local amenities. The virtual tours will be
extended later this year to cover all other housing owned by United
Welsh. United Welsh manages over 3,500 homes for rent across South Wales, of which 600 are for older people. The new scheme will be used in conjunction with other promotions to promote United Welsh’s sheltered housing schemes to those who might never have considered applying to a housing association. |

As chief executive, Tony Whittaker, explains, United Welsh is keen to develop a proactive approach to promoting its sheltered housing developments.
“We have always been determined to give our tenants as much choice as possible when they are moving into one of our homes and this new project is an extension of this.
“The Virtual Tours will ensure that all potential customers, regardless of their location, will be able to view our sheltered housing developments as if they were actually there, giving them the opportunity to make informed decisions on the property, areas, access arrangements and facilities before making an application.
“Everyone likes to have a good look round a property before deciding to move in but it can often be difficult for our older tenants to get out and about for viewings. Through this scheme, we are giving them the opportunity to do just that but from the comfort of their own home.”
