A Tailor-Made Approach Jeff Cuthbert (AM) has officially opened two state-of-the-art supported housing bungalows in Ystrad Mynach. The bungalows will provide accommodation for individuals with learning disabilities and have been built specifically to meet the needs of the new occupants. The bungalows, called Ty Coch and Ty Glas, are the result of a successful collaboration between many organisations. It is also a development supported with a Social Housing Grant (SHG) of £883,147 from the Welsh Assembly Government.
Due to the successful decommissioning of Tair Erw, the site became available in January 2006. Caerphilly CBC in partnership with United Welsh secured the site and proceeded to commission the development.
The bungalows are designed to provide housing for six individuals with learning disabilities. Specialist 24hr support will be provided by REACH who have a key role in helping to provide supported living. Their aim is to ensure that residents live as independent a life as possible.
The housing will provide a stable, secure and safe environment. It is a model of accommodation that provides privacy and independence with communal areas that help to ensure no one becomes isolated or lonely.
In total each bungalow will provide three bedrooms and an additional room for support staff. The buildings have been designed to meet the specific requirements of each individual occupant – even down to carpet and wall colour! This re-settlement scheme is further evidence of the successful working relationship between United Welsh and Caerphilly CBC.
