Team United Welsh ‘Race for Life’ in Memory of SueOn Sunday 3rd June almost every female employee from United Welsh put on their running shoes to ‘Race for Life’ and raise money for cancer research and to remember Sue Phillips, a work colleague who sadly passed away in September 2006. Last year the team ran alongside Sue who had recently been given the all-clear from Cancer. But within months she had discovered the cancer had spread and she died shortly after her 60th birthday. The team raised over £1,000 for the fundraising event, money that will go towards cancer research. As a charity, Cancer Research UK rely overwhelmingly on the success of fundraising events such as ‘Race for Life’ to continue life-saving research into the prevention, treatment and cure of all forms of cancer. Paula Kennedy, Director of Housing for United Welsh was absolutely delighted by the commitment show by so many members of staff. “With the sad loss of Sue just a few months earlier we were all very determined to compete again in the ‘Race for Life’ and raise as much money as possible. “Getting together with work colleagues to do something like this really does help to motivate people and of course significantly boosts the fundraising side. I’m sure next year we’ll be lining up again to continue the fit against cancer”.
