On Sunday 4th June almost every female
employee from United Welsh put on their running shoes to ‘Race for Life’ and
raise money for cancer research.
The team raised over £3,000 for the fundraising event, money that will go towards cancer research. As a charity, Cancer Research UK rely overwhelmingly on the success of fundraising events such as ‘Race for Life’ to continue life-saving research into the prevention, treatment and cure of all forms of cancer.
Paula Kennedy, Director of Housing for United Welsh was absolutely delighted that everyone in the team finished the race. “The support from people in Cardiff has been great and really helped us to get to the finish line. We’re all very pleased to have completed the race and raised so much money for such a worthy cause. Its definitely been worth all the sweat, pain and blisters!.
“Getting together with work colleagues to do something like this really does help to motivate people and of course significantly boosts the fundraising side. I hope next year we’ll see more organisations in Wales team-up in the fight against cancer”.
The race was made even more pertinent for the United Welsh team as one of the group, Sue Phillips, is currently receiving treatment for cancer.
Sadly since the ‘Race for Life’ event, Sue Phillips lost her fight with cancer. She died on Monday 11th September 2006. Her friends and colleagues at United Welsh will continue to support ‘Race for Life’ in future years in memory of Sue and to raise money for this worthy cause.
