United Welsh is pleased to announce that following a recent review of our gas service provisions we have achieved the Gas Safe Registration. This accreditation confirms that all of our gas engineers are approved by the Health and Safety executive in accordance with the gas safety regulations at this time.
The Gas Safe Register replaces CORGI as the gas registration body. The sole focus of the register is to improve gas safety and only engineers on the register should carry out work on gas installations and appliances.
Incorrectly fitted, badly repaired or poorly maintained gas appliances are a major cause of lethal carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. They can also lead to gas leaks and explosions. Anyone carrying out work on gas must be registered with the Gas Safe Register. If not, they are breaking the law and putting people’s lives at risk. All the contractors that carry out gas maintenance work on behalf of United Welsh are registered with Gas Safe. This will ensure high quality services at all times.
As a landlord we have a duty to service all gas and solid fuel central heating systems annually. The service will ensure that boilers are working efficiently and that everything is being done to help keep heating costs down for our tenants. In addition we need to check that everything is working properly. Faulty appliances can cause explosions and can give off poisonous carbon monoxide fumes with possible fatal consequences. It is therefore vital that we are able to gain access to every property on an annual basis.
Luke Mitchell, Head of Property at United Welsh said: “We are delighted to be one of the first social landlords to have achieved the Gas Safe Registration. Tenant safety is never compromised at United Welsh, particularly when it involved something as important as gas safety. We will continue to maintain all our properties on an annual basis and I must urge tenants to help us complete the checks by granting the contractors access when they call.” 14th August 2009
