United Welsh supports credit union

Make the smart choice!

Smart Money Credit Union has been officially launched during two identical events in Caerphilly and Ebbw Vale. Caerphilly Council Leader Lindsay Whittle and The Mayor of Blaenau Gwent, Jennifer Morgan conducted proceedings at their respected venues.

The new credit union which has been formed as a result of a merger between Caerphilly & District Credit Union and Bleanau Gwent Credit Union, will offer customers a safe and secure alternative to saving and borrowing. The timing of the launch could not be more important with the ‘Credit Crunch’ affecting so people.

United Welsh have been instrumental in helping the new credit union to grow and develop. Organisations such as ‘Smart Money’ are incredibly important to the local community and we will continue to provide support as the organisation moves forward.

We will also be encouraging tenants to join the credit union and to start saving for their futures – whether that be a holiday, a rainy day or Christmas. All tenants of United Welsh are able to join regardless of where they live.

Credit unions are financial co-operatives which are owned and controlled by their members. They offer a friendly, convenient and secure place to save with access to low cost loans and attractive dividend payments for savers.

Each member of ‘Smart Money’ will be encouraged to make regular payments into their savings account - this fund then provides the basis for preferential rate loans. The income generated by lending will help ‘Smart Money’ meet its operating expenses, build reserves and pay savers competitive dividends.
