United Welsh Housing Association Limited is committed to Equal Opportunities. It is the policy of the Association to provide equality of opportunity to all regardless of their sex, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origins, marital status, sexuality, religious belief, or physical or mental disability. The Association seeks to address Equal Opportunities throughout the organisation and has policies, for example, regarding Customer Care, Recruitment, Childcare, training and harassment.

  1. Every employee has personal responsibility for the implementation and compliance with the Equal Opportunities Policy.

  2. In the provision of housing services and the employment of staff to provide these services the Association will seek to ensure equality of opportunity and treatment for all persons.

  3. No person or group of persons applying for housing, or for a job, or for a contract with the Association will be treated less favourably than any other person or group of persons because of their sex, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origins, marital status, sexuality, religious belief, or physical or mental disability. We also do not discriminate on the grounds of age, except that we do not employ people above the retirement age, of 65.

  4. The policy applies to the advertisement of jobs, recruitment and appointment of staff, training, conditions of work, pay and to every other aspect of employment. The Policy also applies equally to the treatment of our customers/clients. Staff will be trained before taking part in recruitment and selection.

  5. In carrying out its Equal Opportunity policy, the Association will actively assist disadvantaged groups to benefit from its housing services and will seek to identify the needs of disadvantaged groups in its own area of operation by establishing close relationships with those groups

  6. As an employer, the Association will actively seek to attract applications from disadvantaged groups. Selection procedures and criteria will ensure that individuals are selected and promoted on the basis of their relevant merits and abilities only. In order to ensure equal opportunities, all jobs will be openly advertised.

  7. In hiring contractors and other bodies to work for it, the Association will actively pursue its commitment to equality of opportunity.

  9. The Association has adopted the "Positive About Disabled People" symbol to show that we are serious about employing people with disabilities. We have promised to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum job criteria; regularly consult disabled employees; improve staff awareness of disability issues; make every effort to retain present staff who become disabled and review and monitor these commitments and their progress.
